5. David Walliams’ controversial costume choice in 2017

Back in 2017, Walliams faced quite the backlash online for dressing as North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Un. The Halloween costume and David’s use of yellow makeup was particularly disturbing amongst many online, with a large number calling the television personality ‘racist’.

The choice of costume angered many due to the North Korean leader’s despotic way of ruling.

4. The BGT judge saved a dog from drowning whilst swimming the River Thames for charity

Back in 2011, just a year before Walliams joined the Britain’s Got Talent judge lineup, the author and comedian swam the entire length of the River Thames. Whilst in the water, David saved a dog from drowning in the river.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge suffered from giardiasis afterward and had to undergo back surgery due to injuries.

3. David Walliams says he still asks for autographs

Despite his clear public appeal, David Walliams isn’t afraid to ask for an autograph. If I see someone I really admire I’m really happy to get their autograph. I get people to sign books all the time,” he said in an interview.

2. David has sold more than £100 million worth of books

David Walliams is one of the world’s most well-renowned children’s authors. The TV judge has sold over £100 million worth of books since becoming an author. His number-one bestseller is Gangsta Granny, which sold £1.35 million paperback copies. That’s nearly as many albums that Beyonce sold with her hit album, Lemonade back in 2016.

1. The BGT judge is open about having had gay experiences in the past

Whilst we all know David Walliams for his camp character on Britain’s Got Talent, viewers have always questioned his sexuality. David admitted to Sunday People that he ‘enjoyed’ gay experiences when he was younger. “I had gay experiences growing up, which I enjoyed. I was a teen and in a lot of all-male environments. I am naturally very camp. When I was at school I used to play Wonder Woman in the playground.”
